Acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese Medicine principles. There are 12 main and some additional accessory meridians (channels) that run the energy of the body, controlling the Chi (the body's energy). According to the foundations of this theory, if there is any disruption in the normal flow of the energy patterns (too much or too little), diseases become manifest.
Acupuncture is one of the modalities offered by ancient Chinese medicine to correct the disruption of the energy flows. Based on thousands of years of experience, a map of the channels are available to determine the correct points of stimulation needed. The acupuncture needle is typically less than the thickness of a hair (much thinner than normal needles used for drawing blood).
When acupuncture needles are placed on the appropriate acupuncture points, energy could be redirected to restore the Chi. Dr. Namdar has completed additional training for physicians trained in Western Medicine who are interested in incorporating some elements of Chinese medicine into their practice in order to provide a more comprehensive care for their patients. He is currently licensed by New York State to provide acupuncture treatment along side his Western Medical degree.
Treatment:
Each session consists of placing the needles in their appropriate points. The patient is then given 20 minutes of treatment, during which he or she is placed in a private room for meditation. For most diseases, Dr. Namdar recommends four treatments at one-week intervals, followed by four additional treatments at every other week interval. Additional "tune up" sessions may be necessary at that later time, according to each person's individual symptoms
Costs:
It is our experience that most insurances do not accept acupuncture treatment as a doctor procedure. Therefore, we have had many denials of treatment when bills were submitted directly to insurance. However, acupuncture treatment is reimbursed by many insurances as an out-of-pocket expense for the patient. We provide the invoice for each treatment (currently at 85 dollars per session) to the patient, so that you might submit for reimbursement from your insurance carrier. Any non-reimbursed bills can also be used as a deduction on your taxes.
